During a few free hours we had a chance to explore the neighborhood of 新天地 Xintiandi (New Heaven and Earth). This area is known for its traditional architecture which incorporates such features of old Shanghai such as stone gates 石库门 shikumen, antique walls and antique tiles. Although the architecture is traditional the area is filled with very contemporary and expensive high end boutiques, galleries and restaurants.
