Xintiandi Herb Shop
From the outside this looks like it could be a museum or very chic clothing boutique but it was in fact the most beautiful Chinese herb shop I have ever seen. Or perhaps I should call it an herb boutique. Everything from ginseng roots to birds nests were beautifully wrapped and displayed. The elegantly dressed sales girl graciously explained what all the different herbs were and what ailments they could be used for treating. Prices for just about every package was in the hundreds of dollars... A far cry from the dark dingy herb shops I am so used to seeing in New York City’s Chinatown. There were no sick patients here and no doctors weighing out small packets of herbs on dusty scales.
