The Antique Market 古玩市场
Shanghai abounds with places to shop. Among them, the most interesting was this antique market called the 古玩市场 "Guwan Shichang" located on Dongtain Lu. Here, for several yuan or several hundred yuan one can purchase traditional musical instruments, ancient teapots, lamps, Buddha figurines, Mao statues, opium pipes, paintings, bronze locks and countless other curios. You must be prepared to bargain hard. Though the shopkeepers speak limited English it is not a problem. They simply punch in their asking price on calculators and then pass the calculator to you so you can make your offer. And so it will go on back and forth till both customer and shopkeeper come to a mutually agreeable price.
