Chinese people are very superstitious about numbers. The number "8" ba is considered particularly lucky because of its associations with prosperity. I had read that car owners in China will pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars to buy a license plate with many 8's in it in the hopes that it will bring them good fortune and wealth. So when I came upon this car I looked around to see whether the owner was in sight. I expected to see someone with numerous gold chains and bracelets glinting around his neck and wrists.
