The Bund 外滩 Wàitan

The Bund at night
Lori and I on a river cruise of The Bund
On the second night of our summit we were taken to one of Shanghai’s most famous attractions -
a river cruise along the Bund (外滩 wàitän).  This section of Shanghai was formerly an international settlement.  During the 1940‘s many historical banks and trading houses from the U.S., France, Italy, Russia, Germany, Japan and Great Britain were housed here. They were built in such architectural styles as Gothic, Baroque, Renaissance and Art Deco.  While aboard the ship you can see many of these buildings as well as many skyscrapers including the famous Oriental Pearl TV Tower all lit up in thousands of blinking neon lights. Truly thrilling!
